Kashba Beldi, Morocco

Paradise at the foot of the Atlas Mountains

The drive here alone is worth the visit from beautiful desert roads through the Atlas Mountains, past the calm seascape of Lalla Takerkoust Barrage.

Kasbah Beldi allows an escape from Marrakech for the day, or to stay in a peaceful setting just 50 minutes from the city. It’s the last masterpiece from the Leymarie family, who also own Beldi Country Club.

The drive here alone is worth the visit from beautiful desert roads through the Atlas Mountains, past the calm seascape of Lalla Takerkoust Barrage.

Just when you think it can't get more beautiful, you reach the kasbah and it actually becomes even more heavenly. The Kasbah Beldi is a landscape architectural masterpiece.

19 rooms and 9 lodges, designed in simple Berber style with nice Moroccan details cuddle up in a dreamy garden of olive trees, grass swaying in the wind and overflowing bougainvilleas that merge smoothly into the soft, sand-colored hilly landscape. Those who want to be spoiled can book one of the lodges with a panorama window. The interior design also plays with the style of the region and is modern and light at the same time. The beauty here is that there is a mix of luxurious and simple rooms. Two large pools and a traditional hammam allow you to enjoy the quiet and to unwind.

Originally a farm cultivating olives, grapes and vegetables, the 15-hectare site was built respecting the traditions and materials of the region to enjoy the views of the Atlas Mountains and lake which contrasts with the desert landscape of southern Morocco.

If you don't have time for a longer stay, you can just come to Kasbah Beldi for a picnic, although the term picnic does not do justice to the food. A three-course menu with Moroccan salads and various tagins can be eaten under a huge ancient pistachio tree on a beautiful Berber carpet with beautiful views of the mountains. Kasbah Beldi has a vegetable garden and fruit trees, allowing the chefs to prepare dishes with the harvest from the garden.
