Verana, Mexico
The magical view from the V House
This place is a magical off-grid experience located in the mexican jungle and only reachable by boat and a hike. The serene setting allows for deeply relaxation, calming the mind and transformed us ways we’d never thought of.
When the boat curves down through the bay of banderas and the driver suddenly cuts the engine to drift in towards the coast, you feel a sense of freedom. Mules are standing on the rocks, your luggage is strapped to their backs, and you hike up the hill into the jungle for thirty minutes before getting to the hotel lobby.
Hand-built and carved out of the lush Mexican jungle by the cool couple with European roots and home in the canyon of Topanga, California (and founders of Boutique Homes) Veronique Lievre and Heinz Legler, Verana grew since 2007 from a deep appreciation of nature, from ideas, images and a strong passion for design and adventure.
The untouched jungle site, located in Yelapa, a little town South of Puerto Vallarta was carefully shaped and meticulously designed, using local materials sourced from the land. Each of the 8 Palapas was designed with its own character and feel to blend with the hillside jungle environment.
In the V House, our favorite, you sleep above the trees in reverse-pyramid open-air rooms with windowless open walls that offer unparalleled panoramic jungle views on all sides.
The handcrafted hotel, which features a number of other boutique offerings like an infinity pool, yoga studio, a library and an open-air restaurant under the stars began with machetes and was meant to be just one house but has kept growing unplanned instead.
A special place of spectacular natural beauty, Verana transported us to a private oasis of imagination, artistry and style. The serene setting an its unique take on simple luxury allowed for deeply relaxation, calming the mind and transformed us in ways we’d never thought of.
